
Kevin McTavish is the founder of Summit Capital, LLC, a real estate investment firm based in Dallas, Texas. Summit invests primarily in real estate assets and companies for institutional and private investors.
Prior to Summit he was a Principal at Colony Capital, LLC, a private equity firm with over $8 billion in acquired assets. As a Principal at Colony he was responsible for the acquisition of new investments and managing certain troubled investments. From 1998 – 2001 he was responsible for establishing a Tokyo & Seoul office where he sourced over $3 billion of non-performing loan and real estate opportunities. From 2001 – 2003 he focused primarily on sourcing domestic opportunities but has also led the firm’s efforts to open an office in Eastern Europe (Warsaw).
From 1996-1998 he was Chief Operating Officer of Colony Advisors, the related asset management firm for Colony Capital. He was promoted to this position after joining Colony only one year earlier. As COO he managed a 50 person asset management group and over $3 billion of real estate assets. He also was personally responsible for resolving over $400 million of assets that were the remnants of Colony’s initial seven purchases of non performing loans and REO portfolios. Property types included apartments, office, retail, industrial, condominiums and raw land. During this time he acquired a substantial amount of experience working out troubled loans, often resolving them through the bankruptcy process. He was a member of Investment Committee and Major Asset Review Committee.
